Job Hunting Tips 2014

Employed and still looking for a job? Well, this isn’t a novel idea. It happens all the time. Many stimuli make people unsatisfied with their jobs. This could lead to a job hunt while still being employed. Does it sound disloyal? Some people could say so but you can’t judge anyone without knowing their part of the story. Maybe that’s the right thing to do. Leaving behind the issues of conscience, let’s see what could help us for job hunting while still doing a job.

Act normal, don’t be obvious

It is apparent that you don’t want to be jobless and that is why you haven’t still resigned from your unhappy position. But a slight idea about your job search could get you fired from your current job. So try your best in keeping this hunt very low profile.

Schedule interviews before or after your working hours. If that doesn’t seem feasible, it is a good idea to take a day off. Don’t discuss your plans with any of your colleagues; not even the ones you consider loyal and close.

Use your network

Networking plays a great role in achieving the goals of corporate world. A large number of vacancies are filled by referrals. Networking doesn’t only count your professional acquaintances but your friends, family and college mates as well.

Most people in your circle might not have anything specific for you but they could possibly provide you with valuable leads. You could also ask them to make an effort for you; this could open a lot of new doors of opportunities.

You can always ask for confidentiality from your circle of people. Make them your confidante in this matter.

Brush up your Resume

Keep your resume updated. It is always a good idea to get your resume professionally written if you are not good at it. Check it for any errors; a typo is the last thing that you would want in your resume.

If you intend to apply for a large array of jobs, customize your resume for each job. Look into the job description and you will find a handful of keywords used as skills that the ideal candidate must possess. Incorporate these keywords in your resume intelligently.

Why you want to leave

‘Why you want to leave your current position?’ is the hot favorite question that is asked during the interview of an employed candidate. This is a very tricky question for an interviewee.

The rule is that anything negative would most likely be a bad answer. They don’t want to listen how bad your boss is or how much you hate your job. These statements automatically imply that you are prone to falling into such situations again.

You could say that your current company doesn’t offer a lot of growth opportunities or it has a large pool of employees and you get to do the same mundane tasks each day. Make your answer suggest that you want to grow in your profession and that’s the reason why you want to leave your current job.

Look for satisfaction in your career!
